Michael Lee Bruner (born July 23, 1956) is an American former competition swimmer, two-time Olympic champion, and former world record-holder in two events. He competed at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Quebec, where he received a gold medal in the men's 200-meter butterfly (also world record), and a gold medal in the men's 4×200-meter freestyle relay.〔("1976 Olympics – Montreal, Canada – Swimming" ) – databaseOlympics.com (Retrieved on May 2, 2008)〕 He received a gold medal at the 1978 World Aquatics Championships in Berlin. Bruner set two world records during his career. One was the world record in the 200-meter butterfly (long course) with a time of 1:59.23, and one relay record.
